Nindya Karya's First Salt Pond in NTT, Ready to Strengthen National Self-Sufficiency

Rote Ndao, NTT (May 22) – PT Nindya Karya (Persero) is currently working on its first salt pond development project in Rote Ndao Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, under the title of the National Salt Industry Center Area (K-SIGN). This project, owned by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) of the Republic of Indonesia, is a strategic step in optimizing regional potential while strengthening the national salt industry.

Support for this project was evident in the visit of Indonesian Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka to the site, accompanied by the Director General of Marine Management of the KKP A. Koswara, President Director of PT Nindya Karya (Persero) Firmansyah, Senior Vice President of Infrastructure Division 1 Alfriady Zuliansyah, Senior Vice President of Supply Chain Management Division Cut Raisa, and Vice President of Production Division 2 Edden Umaga Dinata.

In his statement, the Vice President emphasized that the national salt demand, which reaches approximately 5 million tons per year, cannot yet be fully met by domestic production. Therefore, the salt development project in Rote Ndao is considered strategic in supporting national needs.

"Our annual salt demand is 5 million tons. We cannot meet that, so this project here is crucial for meeting domestic salt needs," said the Vice President.

The project also aligns with the President's Astacita vision of promoting economic independence and achieving self-sufficiency in national strategic commodities. The government targets domestic salt production to meet industrial and consumer needs, thereby reducing dependence on imports and increasing national competitiveness.

The salt ponds in Rote Ndao are designed to have a production capacity of hundreds of thousands of tons per year. With an integrated management system, it is hoped that this will improve salt quality and production efficiency. Furthermore, this project will also contribute to improving welfare and local economic growth by creating jobs for the surrounding community, both as salt farmers and as laborers.
